Performances
Over the past few years, Mariana Machado has collaborated with various performers, theaters, and cultural centers, investigating the connection between body, space, and movement, framed by the immediacy of photography. She is the resident photographer at the Beursschouwburg cultural center, one of the most renowned in Belgium, where she has documented a wide variety of artistic performances over the past two years. In addition, some of her work has been commissioned by Workspacebrussels, further expanding her involvement with the performing arts scene. These are some of the photographs she has taken for these cultural centers in recent years.
Personal note:
"My intention with performance photography is that it goes beyond mere documentation. Through the act of interpretation and translation, I seek to create images that not only freeze a moment in time, but also evoke the flow and intensity of a live performance. I try to approach performance photography with a cinematic sensibility, carefully framing each image to create sensations of narrative, rhythm, and emotion. Thus, I intend for each photograph to become an extension of the artistic expression itself, giving it a new life in visual form."
